Concept Artist
Timberline Studio is a diverse team seeking to tell emergent stories in beautiful and stylized worlds. Our first release was The Red Lantern, a story-driven, dog-sledding game. Our team is comprised of veterans and those that are newer to the industry and we pride ourselves on helping to build up new talent. We are seeking curious and imaginative people to join our team and help us develop our next game.
We're looking for a concept artist who can help us bring our vibrant fantasy to life and to surprise and delight our players.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate closely with the team and studio leads
Create vibrant and imaginative concept art for characters, costumes, environments, props, and creatures
Create full environment concepts with an emphasis on atmosphere and mechanics. Every image tells a story.
Develop turnarounds and detail sheets for the modelers to work from
Collaborate with the team to make the vision a reality
Iterate on your concepts to find the balance between concept and gameplay needs
Assist with reference gathering, documentation, and communicating ideas about the designs you're developing
Provide paintovers to the team to help refine the look and quality
Be an integral part of the studio's culture of collaboration and openness
The ideal candidate will also have skills and experience with
Pushing the boundaries of standard anatomy to develop unique characters and designs
Comfortable delivering in a variety of formats from thumbnails and roughs to more detailed pieces
A broad understanding of video game pipelines and the needs of the team from a creative and time perspective
Able to take and provide feedback in a kind and respectful manner
Expert in Photoshop or similar paint program and an understanding of other game art production tools
Bonus
Understanding or skilled in 2D animation
Able to help paint textures
Light UI design and iconography
This is a full-time, salaried position. We prioritize live-work balance with a flexible schedule and the second and last Fridays off each month. We are open to local and remote candidates and are open to a contract position.
